In a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor emerges as the second installment in the Star Wars Jedi franchise. The game takes place between the prequel and original trilogies of Star Wars where the Jedi are actively being hunted down by the tyrannical galactic empire. One of the main things I loved about this game was the gameplay. It builds on the already phenomenal combat of the first game in the series, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order by adding many new lightsaber stances. This allows for more variety in playstyles and it lets the player truly customize the way they want to handle each combat scenario. The scenery is amazing with each planet having its own charm and looking very unique from one another. As for the story, the game starts off really strong. Some of the villains that appear earlier in the game are very interesting and have more going for them than the ones in the game’s predecessor. Unfortunately, not all aspects of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are as good as the ones I just mentioned. While I won’t get into great detail so as to not spoil anything, I will say that the final act of the game is noticeably worse in terms of storytelling. The final act is kicked off by a predictable plot twist and a new villain being introduced. This villain’s motives and abilities don’t make much sense in the story and it feels like the writing of this act was rushed in order to finish the plot. Another thing I don’t like about this game is the bugs/glitches. At one point I was almost not able to progress through the story due to a game breaking bug. In conclusion, I give Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a 3.5/5 as the gameplay and visuals were great but certain aspects of the story and performance issues definitely made the game less than what it could have been.
